Kolkata, April 21 -- A national alternative to the BJP-headed NDA government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi can emerge only through movements led by the farmers, workers, the middle-class, the youth and students, says CPI-M politburo member Mohammed Salim.
"This cannot be done sitting in air-conditioned rooms. But one has to be on the streets," Salim told UNI in an interview.
However, the weakness of the non-Left secular opposition parties and their unwillingness to pick up people's issues are major hindrances in battling the "growing neo-fascist tendencies" of the Modi government, said the senior Communist Party of India-Marxist leader.
