Nashik, Sept. 7 -- Five persons died after drowning in separate incidents in Maharashtra's Nashik district on Saturday during the immersion of Lord Ganesh idols.

According to police, the Ganesh immersion in Nashik has been marred by the deaths of five people due to drowning. Four people have died in the district during the immersion and one person is still missing.

Due to rain, many rivers and streams are overflowing and water has been released from many dams and embankments.

Five people were swept away and the fire brigade and Aapada Mitra have started a search operation to find the body of the missing youth.

The name of the youth who was swept away in the flowing water is Praveen Shantaram Chavan (25, Chalisgaon, Jalgaon district).
