Bhubaneshwar, Jan. 1 -- The State's Excise Department registered as many as 280 cases and made a seizure of contraband valued at Rs 1.43 crore in the last 24 hours in the ongoing operation to nip the bud of drug and narcotics trafficking, said officials on Thursday.

While 35 persons were arrested during the 24-hour crackdown, three were booked under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act. Four vehicles were seized in connection with the violations.

The seizures included 15,879 bulk litres of illicitly distilled liquor and 758 bulk litres of duty-paid liquor. Other recoveries comprised 1,40,050 bulk litres of fermented wash, 26,600 kg of gur wash and 8 kg of bhang. Narcotics seized during the operations included 63 kg of ganja,...
