Nagpur, Oct. 12 -- Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat said that an organisation like the RSS could have originated only in Nagpur, citing the city's unique atmosphere of service and sacrifice.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Maharaja of Nagpur Trust yesterday, Bhagwat said that while many people across India spoke about unity and Hindutva, it was in Nagpur that such ideas could practically take shape.

He stated that Nagpur had long nurtured a spirit of dedication and social service, which inspired Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar to establish the RSS in 1925.

"This city had the environment where people were ready to work for the nation without expecting anything in return," Bhagwat added.
