Nagpur, Sept. 11 -- A court here has dismissed a Rs 500 crore defamation suit filed by Congress leader Nana Patole against Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) Rashmi Shukla in connection with the alleged phone-tapping case.

Senior Civil Judge Anand Munde, presiding over the Divisional Civil Court, rejected the petition at the preliminary stage under Order 7, Rule 11 of the Civil Procedure Code.

Patole had alleged that Shukla, during her tenure as Pune Police Commissioner in 2017-18, was involved in the illegal tapping of his phone and sought damages of Rs 500 crore.

The case stemmed from a complaint lodged in February 2022 by Police Inspector Vaishali Chandgude at Bund Garden Police Station, Pune.
