Dimapur, Sept. 18 -- The Nagaland government has granted remission of sentences of 41 prisoners who have been convicted by the courts (other than court martial) having criminal jurisdiction in Nagaland and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment in various jails of the state.
The state home department today said in celebration of the 79th Independence Day, and consequent to the proposal submitted by director general (prisons), the Governor of Nagaland, in exercise of the power conferred by Article 161 of the Constitution, has granted remission of sentences of these prisoners.
The remission took effect from September 12.
