Mysuru, Oct. 1 -- The annual Mysuru Dasara celebrations not only honor tradition but also inspire hope and progress among those who have long lived close to nature, said union Minister Shobha Karandlaje, highlighting the remarkable transformation of mahouts and kavadi bearers, whose children are now pursuing education after their parents were made government employees under the BS Yediyurappa-led government, earning salaries of 35,000 to 40,000 rupees.

Mahouts and kavadis are caretakers who train and care for the Dasara elephants, spending more than 11 months in the forest.
