Mumbai, Aug. 29 -- Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange-Patil began his indefinite hunger strike at Mumbai's Azad Maidan at 9:45am today, vowing not to retreat until the government fulfills Maratha community's demand for reservation under the OBC category.
"Will continue the fast even if shot dead and would not leave until their demands are met," the 43-year-old activist said while addressing thousands of supporters.
Mumbai has come to a near standstill as thousands of protesters, wearing saffron caps and carrying flags, have converged on South Mumbai, creating severe traffic disruptions across key arterial routes.
