Mumbai, Dec. 29 -- Mumbai's winter morning on Monday turned sour quickly the city woke up to clear blue skies and cool temperatures, but a thick layer of smog soon settled in, reducing visibility and highlighting the city's deteriorating air quality.
The city Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 273, falling into the 'unhealthy' category, with areas like Chembur and Wadala facing 'severe' AQI levels (345 and 322, respectively.
The persistent pollution is primarily to dust and fine particulate matter generated by extensive construction activity across Mumbai.
