Mumbai, Aug. 19 -- Hundreds of families living along the Mithi River were forced to evacuate their homes today after the swollen river crossed the danger mark due to hours of relentless downpour.Around 400 residents from the Kranti Nagar slum in Kurla were evacuated.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) L Ward, accompanied by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel, rushed to the site after the river crossed the critical threshold.

Dhanaji Hirlekar, Assistant Commissioner of L Ward, who personally supervised operations, confirmed that the evacuation of 140 vulnerable structures was underway, with residents being shifted to a nearby civic-run school.
