Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- Mumbai Police issued a formal notice to Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil and his team, directing them to immediately vacate Azad Maidan where his indefinite hunger strike entered fifth day today.

The police declined to extend permission for the protest, citing multiple violations of pre-agreed conditions for the agitation.

Police stated that while permission had been granted for 5,000 protesters, more than 40,000 agitators arrived from various parts of Maharashtra. The protesters blocked roads in South Mumbai and parked over 5,000 vehicles on connecting roads, resulting in severe traffic congestion throughout the area.
