Mumbai, Sept. 18 -- The water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai reached at 224,636 million litres (ML), reaching 99.02 per cent of the total capacity.

According to data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) this morning, the collective stock in all seven lakes is sufficient to meet the city's water requirements until the next monsoon season.

The civic body supplies water to Mumbai every day from the Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vihar and Tulsi lakes. With steady rains over the past week, most of these lakes have now reached their maximum storage capacity.
