Mumbai, March 4 -- Mumbai booked a place in the title round by defeating Tamil Nadu by an innings and 70 runs in the Ranji Trophy semifinal on Monday.

Tamil Nadu batted first and were bowled out for 146. Vijay Shankar top scored with 44. Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the bowlers, registering figures of 12-7-24-3.

In reply, Mumbai were reeling at 106/7. That was when Shardul Thakur stepped up to score a counter-attacking, match-winning century (109 off 104). Tanush Kotian also scored 89* as Mumbai posted a total of 378.

Tamil Nadu skipper and left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore picked up a six-wicket haul (38-9-99-6).
