Kolkata, Jan. 25 -- The Kolkata Police's horse-mounted contingent has been kept out of the R-Day parade for the fourth year following a 2022 incident involving a ceremonial salute.
The incident happened on January 26, 2022, when one of the horses broke formation and briefly turned its back towards the then Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar during the salute.
Since then, the cavalry unit has not participated in either Republic Day or Independence Day parades, and it will not feature in Sunday's parade either.
While real horses will not march down Red Road, spectators will see a new-age replacement - the Indian Army's mechanical "robotic mules" - during the ceremonial proceedings.
