Srinagar, Jan. 13 -- The ongoing drive to collect data on mosques in Kashmir has drawn sharp criticism from different quarters, alleging move to control religious practices, privacy, right to religion and faith, etc. by the government.

After Srinagar Member of Parliament Ruhullah Mehdi, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), an umbrella body of Muslim religious leaders, also came out in the open claiming that the exercise is aimed at controlling religious practices and infringes on privacy, religious freedom and fundamental rights.
