Rabat/Damascus, May 18 -- Morocco will reopen its embassy in Damascus, marking a significant shift in its diplomatic stance toward Syria after more than a decade of severed ties.
Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita made the official announcement on the reopening of the embassy on Saturday on behalf of King Mohammed VI during the opening session of the 34th Arab League Summit in Baghdad.
Describing the move as a step toward "opening up broader prospects for the historical bilateral relations" between Morocco and Syria, King Mohammed's message signals Rabat's alignment with a broader regional trend of Arab countries restoring formal relations with Damascus, reports Times of Israel.
