Dhaka, June 11 -- Muslims across Bangladesh have sacrificed more than nine million animals, mostly cows and goats, during the Eid al-Adha festival, according to estimates shared by a ministry.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bangladesh's Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said this year's Eid al-Adha saw the sacrifice of 91,36,734 animals.

Among the sacrificed animals, there were 47,05,106 cows and buffaloes, 44,30,668 goats and other animals.

According to the ministry's data, the highest number of animals were sacrificed in the country's western Rajshahi region followed by the capital Dhaka region this year.
