Srinagar, Oct. 1 -- More than 12 spectators were briefly detained and later released after counselling for allegedly not standing during the national anthem at the final of the J&K Police Martyrs' Memorial Football Tournament in Srinagar last evening, officials said today.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor was the chief guest at the event.

The anthem was played live by a band.

Officials said more than 12 spectators were detained for not standing to the national anthem. They were, however, counselled and allowed to go . "No charges were filed," the officials said.

The individuals, who were detained, claimed the anthem's low volume in parts of the stadium caused confusion, and there was "no intention to show disrespect."In the final, ...
