Dharamshala, Sept. 5 -- Heavy rains during the current monsoon season have caused massive damage in Kangra district, with preliminary assessments placing total losses at Rs 53,917.475 lakh, Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said here on Thursday.
The damage, recorded between June 20 and September 4, includes loss of lives, livestock, residential houses, shops and public infrastructure.
According to official data, 50 people have died and 171 heads of livestock perished in rain-related incidents in the district during this period. "This loss of life is extremely tragic, and the administration is working continuously to extend every possible assistance to the affected families," Bairwa said.
