Shimla, Aug. 13 -- Himachal Pradesh is reeling under one of the most intense monsoon spells of the season, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur districts till August 14.

Shimla Met Office In charge Kuldeep Shrivastava said heavy to very heavy rainfall, triggered by an active monsoon trough, a western disturbance, and favourable atmospheric conditions, is likely to peak on August 13-14, significantly heightening the risk of landslides, flash floods and road blockages.

According to Shimla Emergency Response Operation Centre, state's monsoon death toll has reached 240, with 324 injured and 36 people missing.
