Shimla, July 2 -- Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh was battered by a devastating spell of rainfall, recording 216.8 mm in the 24-hour period ending July 1-marking the second-highest monsoon rainfall ever recorded in the state and first ever in the district.
According to Kuldeep Srivastava, head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre (RWFC) Shimla, the rainfall was the highest ever in June, surpassing all previous records for the month. The only instance of higher rainfall occurred on August 31, 1960, when 271.1 mm was recorded.
On July 1, rainfall continued to pummel the region with Sandhole receiving 223.6 mm, Mandi town 216.8 mm, and Pandoh 215 mm in just a few hours.
