Hyderabad, Sept. 28 -- Telangana Farmers Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy said that the state government has implemented the Money Lending Act to protect farmers from exploitation by private moneylenders.

In a statement here on Sunday, he noted that small and marginal farmers often fall into deep distress after borrowing from private lenders for agricultural needs, with some even driven to suicide due to unmanageable interest burdens. Kodanda Reddy recalled that two months ago he had written to the government, submitting evidence that the Money Lending Act, 1349, was not being enforced in the state.
