Johannesburg, Nov. 23 -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Sunday and discussed advancing the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with a particular focus on economic security.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, was the first between the two leaders since Takaichi took office. India and Japan, both members of the Quad, reaffirmed their commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region amid growing geopolitical flux.

Modi had earlier spoken to Takaichi on October 29 to congratulate her on assuming office, during which the two leaders agreed that strengthening bilateral ties was essential for global peace, stability and prosperity.
