Mumbai, Aug. 14 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has strongly criticised multiple municipal corporations in the state for ordering the closure of meat shops and butcher establishments on Independence Day (August 15).

The orders issued by civic bodies in Kalyan-Dombivli, Nalasopara, Nagpur, Amravati and other parts of Maharashtra have sparked controversy across the state.

Thackeray denounced the directives as unwarranted interference in citizens' personal food choices, questioning the legal authority of local governments to dictate dietary preferences.
