Mumbai, Dec. 11 -- Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday pleaded not guilty in a sessions court in neighbouring Thane city, for his alleged involvement in a rioting case registered against him and his party workers in 2008 for allegedly assaulting candidates from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh appearing for the Railway Recruitment Board exam.

They were also charged for attacking the policemen at the exam venue.

Earlier in the day, heavy police bandobast was deployed inside and outside the sessions court when the MNS chief arrived. A large number of his party workers and supporters had gathered in the court permises.
