Aizawl, July 21 -- Lalrintluanga Sailo, a sitting MLA from the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), passed away at Max Hospital in New Delhi on Monday night following complications from septicemia, family sources said.

He was 65.

Sailo, who represented the Dampa constituency in western Mizoram's Mamit district, had been admitted to the hospital on June 29. Initially kept in the general ward, he was moved to the intensive care unit the following day, where his condition gradually deteriorated.

"He was diagnosed with septicemia, which had already affected multiple organs. As his condition worsened, he passed away around 9 pm tonight," said K. Vanlalvena, Rajya Sabha MP from Mizoram and a senior MNF leader.
