Aizawl, Oct. 29 -- The 10-hour bandh called by the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) today was called off three hours ahead of its scheduled end, after the party claimed the strike had achieved its purpose with overwhelming public participation across Mizoram.
Originally set to continue till 4 p.m., the bandh began at 6 a.m. and was lifted at 1 p.m. following what MNF leaders described as a "wholehearted and peaceful response" from the public.
The shutdown was organised to protest the state government's adoption of the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 (FCAA, 2023), which the MNF alleges undermines Mizoram's special constitutional safeguards.
