Aizawl, Jan. 29 -- The Mizoram Fisheries Department has initiated an urgent probe following a report regarding the use of explosives to catch fish in the Tuirial River, about 20 kms from Aizawl, and the circulation of a video on social media showing fish being sold.

On receiving the report, the District Fisheries Development Officer, Aizawl, along with other officials of the department, rushed to Tuirial to verify the incident.

During the inspection, it was "conclusively established" that the Tuirial Branch of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) had violated Section 6(1)(a) of the Mizoram Fisheries Act, 2002, which prohibits the use of gelatin or explosives for fishing.
