Aizawl, Aug. 17 -- The Mizoram Women and Child Development Department's helpline has reported a concerning 7,481 cases of abuse against women between April and July this year.

This marks a significant number of calls, with officials noting that the fiscal year 2024-2025 has seen the highest volume of reports, totalling 13,994 incidents of abuse.

The majority of those affected are women aged between 18 and 40, accounting for a striking 71% of the cases. Additionally, 18% of those abused are aged between 40 and 60, while women over the age of 60 make up 2.5% of the reports. Disturbingly, 4.5% of the cases involve girls under the age of 17, indicating that abuse is also impacting younger populations.
