Aizawl, May 9 -- Mizoram has been ranked among the top three Indian states with the lowest Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), sharing the distinction with Sikkim and Manipur, according to the latest Sample Registration Survey (SRS) Bulletin released in May 2025.
Each state recorded an IMR of just three deaths per 1,000 live births, far surpassing national targets, officials from the state health and family welfare department said on Friday.
The National Health Policy 2017 had set an IMR goal of no more than 16 per 1,000 live births by 2025, while the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) fixed the target at 12.
