Aizawl, March 3 -- The Mizoram government has announced the launch of a comprehensivecrop insurance programme aimed at shielding farmers from financial distress caused by natural calamities, pest attacks and crop diseases.
State Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister PC Vanlalruata informed the Mizoram Legislative Assembly on Monday that the scheme would initially cover five major crops under the state's flagship Bana Kaih (Handholding) initiative.
The Minister said the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department is in the process of implementing the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the state.
