Aizawl, June 2 -- Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), ruling in Mizoram, is set to take control of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) after seven members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) defected on Sunday - a major political shake-up just four months after the BJP first gained power in the tribal council.
The defectors include CADC Chairman Lakkhan Chakma and three Executive Members - Kalasoga Chakma, Supan Chakma, and Amit Bayan Chakma - along with MDCs Ajoy Kumar Chakma, Sanjib Chakma, and Mohan Chakma. All seven submitted their resignations to the local BJP President and formally joined the ZPM, a regional party that swept to power in Mizoram's state assembly elections last year.
