Aizawl, March 21 -- Mizoram recorded 29,612 live births and 82 stillborn babies in 2024, according to data compiled by the state Economics and Statistics (E&S) Directorate, Chief Minister Lalduhoma told the state Assembly.
Speaking during the discussion on budgetary demands for the Planning and Programme Implementation Department under his charge on Thursday, Lalduhoma said Mizoram continues to stand out for its low infant mortality rate (IMR).
Citing the Sample Registration System (SRS) Bulletin of the Registrar General of India (RGI), he said the state recorded an IMR of just 3 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2020 - the lowest in the country for the second consecutive year.
