Aizawl, Feb. 2 -- Mizoram recorded at least 124 road accidents in 2024, resulting in 112 fatalities, according to state police data presented at the launch of 'Road Safety Month'.
Police statistics show that from 2019 to 2023, the state registered 547 road accidents, claiming 467 lives-an alarming fatality rate of about 83 percent. Authorities believe the actual number of vehicular accidents may be higher, as some incidents may have gone unreported.
Analysis of accident causes reveals that around 75 percent resulted from driver negligence, including reckless driving, while other factors included drunk driving, wrong-side driving, and mobile phone use while driving.
