Aizawl, Aug. 20 -- Mizoram is exploring the potential for cocoa plantations as part of a national initiative to expand the country's cocoa production.

The state's Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, PC Vanlalruata, participated in the "National Conclave on Cocoa, 2025," which was inaugurated today at Assam Agriculture University in Jorhat.

The Minister attended the event as the chief guest.

In his address, Vanlalruata highlighted that India's current demand for cocoa, primarily used in chocolate production, stands at 120,000 metric tons. However, India only produces about 22,000 metric tons annually, leading to a shortfall of approximately 80 per cent which is met through imports.
