Aizawl, May 25 -- Even as Mizoram remains calm, the state's Health and Family Welfare Department has begun quietly preparing for possible challenges amid reports of a fresh Covid-19 wave in some countries and parts of India, officials from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) said on Sunday.

State IDSP nodal officer Dr Vanlalrengpuia Chinzah said that although the central government has yet to issue formal directives, the Department has received both official and informal updates regarding the spread of a new COVID-19 variant, including reports of two fatalities within India.

"We have not yet been officially instructed on what preventive or surveillance measures to adopt, but we are already considering our course of action...
