Aizawl, Aug. 5 -- The Mizoram government has strongly refuted speculation that it is planning to shift the state capital from Aizawl to Thenzawl in Serchhip district.

The denial comes in response to political uproar triggered by a Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs letter, which mistakenly suggested a capital relocation-something the state government insists was merely a clerical error.

The controversy was ignited when the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) claimed that the Centre had acknowledged a proposal to move the capital to Thenzawl, the home constituency of Chief Minister Lalduhoma.
