Aizawl, Dec. 27 -- Mizoram has stepped up its anti-narcotics drive after intelligence inputs suggested drug traffickers are altering their routes along the Myanmar border, prompting the state government to extend 'Operation Jericho' till March 31 next year.
Home minister K Sapdanga said the special operation, launched on September 1 and originally scheduled to end on December 31, has yielded visible results, with a sharp rise in drug prices indicating a shortage caused by sustained enforcement along the international border.
According to the home minister, traffickers have been forced to abandon their usual entry points due to tighter vigil by security agencies and active involvement of civil society organisations in border areas.
