Aizawl, Nov. 28 -- The Mizoram government has continued releasing special allowances to All India Service (AIS) officers posted in the state despite a union government directive halting such payments more than two years ago, a senior finance department official said on Friday.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official said the Centre stopped the allowance with effect from September 23, 2022. The state government subsequently issued its own order on November 3, 2022, instructing the accounts and treasuries department to discontinue the payments.

However, the allowance was quietly restored from February 22, 2023, while still applying the Centre's cut-off date of September 23, 2022, for calculation purposes.
