Aizawl, Oct. 16 -- The Joint Civil Society of Mizoram (JCM), based in Aizawl, today announced plans to hold a 'Candle Light Vigil' Friday night in a bid to protect Article 371G of the Constitution, which grants special safeguards to the Mizo people.
The vigil is also intended to protest the state government's recent adoption of the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act, 2023 (FCAA), urging the government to reverse its decision.
At a press conference held at the Aizawl Press Club, JCM leader Lalrammawia expressed strong opposition to the state legislative assembly's endorsement of the FCAA, 2023, accusing the amendment of undermining the constitutional protections provided under Article 371G.
