Aizawl, Nov. 11 -- The bye-election to Mizoram's Dampa assembly constituency in Mamit district bordering Bangladesh witnessed an impressive turnout on Tuesday, with 83 percent of the 20,790 registered voters exercising their franchise.
Officials said the final polling percentage may increase once figures from Marpara North, where voting continued late into the evening, are received.
The constituency has 10,605 male and 10,185 female voters. Polling began at 7 a.m. and saw enthusiastic participation across all 41 polling stations.
Long queues were reported early in the morning, and despite minor glitches in some electronic voting machines (EVMs), the voting process remained peaceful throughout the day.
