Aizawl, Sept. 1 -- Mizoram has launched a four-month anti-narcotics campaign to clamp downon smuggling routes from Myanmar and check rising drug abuse in the state.

Home Minister K. Sapdanga today flagged off the operation, which will run till December with special funds and a dedicated 30-member police squad deployed along the border.

Civil society groups including the Young Mizo Association (YMA) will also be involved.

Champhai district, identified as the main entry point, remains the epicentre of the crisis. Of 370 cases registered under the ND&PS Act last year, 170 were from Champhai, and over half of this year's 150 cases up to mid-August also originated there.
