Mumbai, June 3 -- The Maharashtra government proposal to introduce basic military training for students starting from Class 1 has sparked a wide range of responses from political leaders, educationists, and former military officers.
Welcoming the move, Mahesh Tapase, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), described it as an important and commendable step, particularly if the intent is to serve the nation and humanity. He noted, however, that civil defense training and similar activities are already present in schools through programmes like Scouts and Guides.
