Kolkata, July 24 -- Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty today strongly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of fabricating issues for political gain ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

Chakraborty dismissed Banerjee's claims that Bengali-speaking migrant workers were being harassed in BJP-ruled states, calling the allegations "baseless" and part of a "false narrative" aimed at provoking unrest.

"Bengali-speaking people have not faced any unnecessary harassment anywhere in the country," he said, adding that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is short on real issues and resorting to identity-based politics to sway public sentiment.
