Agartala, May 29 -- Tensions gripped villages in Jampui Hills of North Tripura along Mizoram border after miscreants vandalised tourism infrastructure at Betlingchhip, the highest peak of Tripura, on Wednesday near a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) camp, police sources said on Thursday.

The incident has triggered anger among the villagers. The villages located on the interstate border are not far from the Bangladesh international boundary and happen to be a corridor for militants from their hideouts across the border.

The villagers complain that a group of people suspected from Western Mizoram crossed into Tripura territory, vandalized the local buildings, set off an explosive, and then retreated across the Mizoram border.
