Srinagar, Dec. 12 -- Hurriyat chairman and Kashmir's chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday voiced strong concern over the renewed arrests in decades-old cases, saying the move has reignited anxiety and uncertainty among people and families who had long disengaged from their past.
Mirwaiz urged the J&K elected government to intervene on the issue.
Jammu and Kashmir Police recently arrested two separatist leaders who had remained out of jail, in a nearly 30-year-old rioting case in Srinagar. Those arrested were former JKLF chief Javed Ahmad Mir and separatist ideologue Shakeel Bakshi.
