Mumbai, April 9 -- A fire broke out on Thursday evening at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport here briefly triggering panic in one of the country's busiest aviation hubs. The incident occurred near the runway area close to Terminal 1, from where thick smoke was seen to be rising up prompting immediate security measures.
According to preliminary information, sparks were noticed in the runway vicinity, which quickly led to a blaze. Initial indications suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. Given the high-security nature of the zone, authorities acted swiftly, temporarily closing entry gates and placing the airport on high alert.
