Bengaluru, Sept. 20 -- Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao today sparked controversy over caste enumeration practices in Karnataka, sharply criticising the inclusion of combined caste and religious identities in official records.
"If someone is a Brahmin, they are Brahmin; if someone is Christian, they are Christian. Both should not be combined. Similarly, if a Lingayat converts to Christianity, it should be recorded accordingly. Combining identities in official records is not correct," Rao told reporters, highlighting what he described as repeated errors in the state's caste lists.
