Mexico City, July 5 -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has rejected US President Donald Trump's proposed immigration policy, including a budget plan that allocates billions for border security and detention facilities.
At her daily briefing yesterday, Sheinbaum denounced the US House-approved fiscal plan that includes $170 billion for immigration enforcement, saying migration should be addressed through cooperation, not repression.
"We do not agree. Migration must be addressed at its root through development cooperation," she said. Sheinbaum said the Mexican government has helped reduce attempted crossings at both the northern and southern borders.
