Mexico City, Aug. 8 -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has come down heavily on the latest anti-migrant raids in the United States, vowing to protect Mexican nationals staying in the US.
"We do not agree with the raids, and we will protect and help our compatriots," the Mexican president said at her daily press conference.
Sheinbaum, who has called on Washington to recognise the role of migrants in its economy, has worked to strengthen Mexico's consular service in the U.S. to protect Mexicans deported or detained, including those being held at the "Alligator Alcatraz" detention centre in the U.S. state of Florida, according to Rutilio Escandon Cadenas, the Mexican general consul in Miami.
